Jail Administrator Captain Chuck Byerly began his law enforcement career in 1981 with the City of Brunswick Police Department after leaving the U.S Army Bomb Disposal Team. He worked for the Glynn County Police Department for seven years and served as a patrol officer, a narcotics investigator and a bomb technician.

In November 1990, Captain Byerly came to the Camden County Sheriff Office where he first served as a jailor for 18 months. He then became an investigator and rose through the ranks to become Lieutenant of Investigations, Patrol Captain, Commander of the Special Operations Team, then a Major in command of the Operations Division.

Captain Byerly briefly left the Camden County Sheriff’s Office (from June to November of 2009) to work with the regional communications center at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Fla. In November 2009 Captain Byerly returned to the CCSO and served as the Supervisor of the 911 Dispatch Center before assuming his current duties as Jail Administrator.

He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) National Academy. and holds both a BA and an MA (Cum Laude) in Criminal Justice from Valdosta State University. Captain Byerly holds Advanced Law Enforcement Certification and Managerial Certification. In addition, Captain Byerly is a Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Instructor, a Bomb Disposal Technician, a state certified Jailor, a state certified Communications Officer and a RADAR Instructor.
