Marine Patrol

The mission of the Marine Patrol is to respond to boating accidents, stranded or lost boaters and to work in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Camden County Search and Rescue Team. The Camden County Sheriff’s Office also has law enforcement jurisdiction on nearby Cumberland Island.

The Marine Patrol is part of the larger homeland defense posture providing law enforcement and criminal interdiction on the waterways in and around Camden County. This mission is especially relevant given the proximity of Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base. The Marine Patrol also provides additional security patrols during local events including the 4 th of July and the Rock Shrimp Festival in St. Marys.

No employees are assigned to Marine Patrol full time but many deputies have the necessary training and experience to respond in a moment’s notice. There are five boats, all of which were donated to the department. All maintenance and repair costs are paid through seized asset funding at no cost to taxpayers.
