Impersonators Posting as Bail bondsmen

The Camden County Sheriff's Office wants to alert the community about a disturbing scam targeting families of newly arrested individuals.

Recently, scammers have been posing as bail bondsmen, calling the families of those arrested and providing false information to extort money. These scammers claim that the charges are being upgraded and request immediate payment for bail.

Here's what happened in a recent case:

1. A family received a call from a supposed bail bondsman after their loved ones were arrested.

2. The scammer claimed additional serious charges were being filed, which was not true.

3. The family, in a panic, sent several thousand dollars to the scammer, only to find out later that their loved one had already bailed out on the original minor charges.

How to protect yourself:

* Verify: Always verify the information directly with the jail or official law enforcement agencies.

* Beware of urgency: Scammers often create a sense of urgency to pressure you into quick decisions.

* Contact authorities: If you receive such a call, contact the Camden County Sheriff's Office directly at (912) 510-5100 to confirm any details.

* Report scams: If you believe you’ve been targeted by a scam, report it immediately to local law enforcement.

Stay vigilant, Camden County! Protect yourself and your loved ones from these malicious scams. Please share this post to alert others about this ongoing scam.
